Trivia Question❓What famous Roman poet was born in Catania, Sicily in 99 BC? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
The completion of the Forza d’Agrò tunnel marks a significant boost for high-speed rail in Sicily, advancing the Messina–Catania railway project.
This new 2.5-kilometer tunnel, bored with the “Alessia” TBM, supports the strategic Palermo–Catania–Messina line—a vital route within the European TEN-T network.
When operational, the upgraded line will slash travel time between Messina and Catania to just 45 minutes and between Palermo and Catania to about two hours.
Extensive infrastructure, including the 9-kilometer Sciglio tunnel and seven viaducts, demonstrates the region’s ambitious engineering.
More than 10,200 jobs have emerged, and new factories in Belpasso and Dittaino are training local talent and supporting the project.
This transformative rail link aims to drive economic growth, strengthen Sicily’s transport connections, and reinforce its strategic role in Europe. Read More... |
