This is not the kind of festival that stays quietly behind closed doors.

It spills into the city.

So before you make your usual plans, it may be worth seeing what is about to happen downtown.

Catania and Nearby Events to Enjoy This Spring

Spring is giving Catania a full calendar, and honestly, it would be rude not to enjoy it.

From April 29 through the end of May 2026, Catania and the surrounding area will be busy with festivals, concerts, art, flowers, and outdoor adventures.

Whether you live in the city or you are visiting, this is a great time to get out, walk around, and let Sicily show off a little. Which, let’s be honest, Sicily enjoys doing.

One of the biggest events is Contemporary Catania / FIC Festival, running from April 29 to May 10.

This festival brings contemporary art and performance into the city, with dance, music, theatre, cinema, visual art, talks, workshops, and events in both cultural spaces and public areas.

The theme this year is “Kindness,” which is a nice change from the usual theme of “everyone please stop honking.” Highlights include Bloom’s Parade on April 29 and special performances and activities at Parco Gioeni on May 1.

Just outside the city, Acireale will celebrate its Flower Festival from April 30 to May 3. This is an easy and beautiful day trip from Catania, especially for anyone who loves spring colors, decorated streets, and taking “just one more photo” about 47 times.

Music fans also have a few dates to mark. Roberto Vecchioni performs at Teatro Metropolitan on April 29, while Tiromancino comes to the same venue on May 15.

Another beautiful event nearby is the Infiorata di Noto, from May 15 to 19. Noto’s streets will be covered with detailed flower-petal mosaics, turning the city into a living artwork. It is one of Sicily’s most famous spring traditions and worth the trip.

There is also ongoing contemporary art at the Brodbeck Foundation, where Alfredo Pirri’s “Fare Cose” continues through September 30.

And of course, spring is a wonderful time to explore Mount Etna, with milder weather and great conditions for hiking.

So yes, Catania has plenty going on this season. Art, flowers, music, volcanoes — basically, a normal quiet Sicilian spring.

I’m about to tell you something most people never figure out… even after they’ve been to Catania.

They line up.
They wait.
They snap the same church photos as everyone else…

Meanwhile?

The real magic is hiding in plain sight.

And almost nobody sees it.

I’m talking about the street art.
